E-magazine: 75 years with Modig Machine Tool
A letter from David Modig, President Modig Machine Tool
If you ask anyone who knows me, they’ll tell you I’m someone who aims high. My attitude in life and business has always been to be ambitious, and to push towards those ambitions with passion, commitment, and hard work. You can sense this attitude throughout our company too, and it’s an attitude that we’ll need as we take on our next challenges.
I say this because we – Modig Machine Tool – are standing on the edge of something remarkable. When you combine the advances in our technology with its application to so many growth industries, then take into account our increasing capacity, we have the potential to profoundly change the machine tooling world.
Our machines are at the core of this, of course. I’m proud of all our products – from the RigiMills, to our horizontal machining centers and our automation equipment – but I must admit to being especially excited about our inverted machining centers. Changing machines’ orientation is a simple concept really, but it’s one that could have a global impact. With the productivity, accuracy, and reliability that they deliver – and the massive interest that we’ve seen in them – they have the potential to be a truly transformative innovation.
In recent years we’ve been able to extend the range of industrial sectors we work with. Aerospace has, and will remain, a crucial industry for us, but we’ve strengthened our offering in the energy, construction, military, and space sectors. Demand from electric vehicle manufacturers has been growing too. Our HHV line is brilliantly suited to this industry: they deliver unrivaled productivity when machining aluminum extrusion – a major component in electric vehicles.
We’re now in an excellent position to meet this demand, and even to increase it. You’ll read more about the continued expansion of our Kalmar home, the launch of our North American Headquarters, and the part that these developments will play in our ongoing story.
Finally, I want to thank our employees who have worked so hard in the challenging circumstances brought by the pandemic. MODIG has been a family business for 75 years, and our ambitious attitude doesn’t stop us from maintaining certain family values: responsibility, respect, honesty, teamwork. If we continue to treat each other according to these principles, I’m certain that the next chapter will be hugely rewarding for all of us.
David
