H.R.H Prince Carl Philip awarded eight recipients the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society Business Medal award for outstanding entrepreneurship 2023 at the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society annual celebration on May 8th at Riddarhuset in Stockholm. David Modig received the award for refining the products of a traditional Swedish workshop company and taking them out into the world.

Modig Machine Tool develops and manufactures high-speed manufacturing solutions for mainly the aerospace and automotive industries. The globally successful company started in Virserum, Sweden, in 1947 as the Bröderna Modig Mekaniska Verkstad. Today, with David Modig at the helm, the third generation Modig, the company has moved its operations to Kalmar and out into the world, including the USA.
– For having refined the products of a classic Småland, Swedish, workshop company and taking them out into the world, that is the justification, says Kjell Blückert, Permanent Secretary at the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society. The proposer is member Hans Ahlin, the society’s chamberlain.
Modig develops the machines and customize them on requests of the customer. The machines are used, among other things, to manufacture aerospace components and battery boxes for electric vehicles. Modig has described himself as a distinctly competitive person with a strong passion for his company.
– It feels amazing to receive this award, says David Modig. For both the family and the company. The main thing I have achieved, I would say, is to keep the machine tool industry in Sweden. We are the only company left who do this type of machinery.

About the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society Business Medal award for outstanding entrepreneurship
In 1982, the Swedish Royal Patriotic Society instituted a special award medal to honor commendable, individual efforts for Swedish enterprises – An award for meritorious deeds in national economy. The award is given for leadership efforts on an ownership basis. The medal is awarded by decision of the Society’s management committee following suggestions by the members and previous recipients of the Business medal.
